How to safely store LP Gas Cylinders Print
Liquid Petroleum Gas (LPG) is a colourless liquid, either butane or propane which evaporates into a gas. Normally an odour is added to aid detection of leaks. When LPG is mixed with air the resultant mixture can explode or burn when meeting a naked flame or ignition spark. Leaking LPG can also be freezing to the touch so care should be taken when changing cylinders.

When storing cylinders please observe the following basic critical rules:

  • Always store cylinders upright and on firm even base

  • Keep the storage area tidy, clean and away from other items

  • Keep in a well ventilated place, preferably outside in clean air

  • Do not store in occupied buildings

  • Keep away from any source of heat or ignition or heat

  • Ensure area has clearly dislayed NO SMOKING sign

  • Advise all personnel of safe storage policy and ensure this policy is adhered to
