considering hiring a Forklift Truck

3 key questions to ask when considering hiring a Forklift Truck

With the increasing number of online deliveries happening this month, this is a very busy period in the forklift truck industry. Forklift are in demand and we think it’s important to consider 3 factors when hiring a forklift.

Is the forklift suitable for your operation?

If your operation requires the addition of a truck that is going to be used intensively, such as to perform daily shift work, then a new truck is definitely the recommended route. However, if a vehicle is required for more occasional use (up to five or six hours a day), at the end of a production line for example, or for less intensive loading duties or yard work, then a high-quality refurbished forklift truck could be the perfect solution.

At Budget we provide a wide range of Battery operated Reach trucks 3 or 4 wheel from stock from 1000 kgs to 2200 kgs with lift heights up to 10 metres which suits every warehouse operation. And the versatile Flexi / Bendi range. We can provide the complete hire package from 1 day to 5 year long term hire or lease purchase to suit your requirements. Will a truck result in savings for my business ?

Depending on the model, a refurbished forklift is an average of 70 to 75% the cost of a new truck, a hefty saving – but only when applied to the right application. Most refurbished trucks in the market are also available under similar contract rental and warranty agreements as new vehicles. Moreover, Forklifts are an essential part of the way many businesses operate. If you want the benefit of a forklift but don’t want to commit to a full purchase, short term forklift hire may be the perfect solution for you.

When you purchase a forklift outright you have a host of costs associated with it. This can be ongoing maintenance and servicing costs, as well as another serious cost – depreciation. When you rent a forklift, you don’t have to worry about any of that. Often your servicing and maintenance will be covered as a part of your package, and because you don’t actually own the forklift, you’re not the one who will take the hit when it comes to depreciation.

We offer our customers a wide range of forklift trucks which suits every business need such as warehouses, factories, delivery and logistics companies, builders’ merchants and construction companies, to name just a few.  It’s important they use the right forklift, however, because as with any machine, there are different types of forklifts for different needs. Short term forklift hire will allow you to find the perfect forklift for your business.

How can I check the quality of the forklift while hiring?

A forklift truck can be refurbished to perfect condition, and so the quality should be as good as if you were buying a new model. The truck certainly shouldn’t appear ‘Damaged’’ to the naked eye, and the safety and sustainability of the truck should be to the highest standards – do not accept any kind of compromise.

At Budget, we assess the quality of our refurbished trucks at each stage of the production line based on a five-star principle that assures safety, operation, appearance, reliability and sustainability.

We also would like to share some tips to access the quality of a forklift truck:

Run a visual check of the truck to ensure there are no cracks, dents or damage. Check the tyres for wear and the chassis for evidence of rust damage. If it is an electric truck you are viewing, check the condition of the battery; green and white crystals on the poles could be the result of sulphiting, while cells arched outwards could signify old age – both of which can lead to battery breakdown.

In addition, request to carry out a function test of the truck, focusing on the motor, mast, steering, brakes and lights. Check that everything is working as it should, that there is no smoke or leakages from the engine and that the forks do not sag under a load.

You also want to choose a company that offers a broad selection of forklifts for you to choose from, which will allow you to make sure you get the right forklift for your requirements. Pricing matters, so consider several different forklift rental companies if you can, and compare their pricing to one another. If you find a better like for like deal with another company, say so – the company may be willing to match it for you.

Good communication is essential as well. A forklift is the backbone of your business and the way it operates, so if you need to contact your rental company to resolve an issue, it’s important they have the manpower and people skills to be able to attend to you in a professional way, while also solving your problem.

Moreover, a short term investment is always a wise decision. We at budget forklift offer a short term which, Short term forklift hire can be anything from a week to a month, to six months, to a year. You can also rent a forklift for a longer period of time, often anything up to five years, but this is only advised if you know exactly what you need.
